Teaching your children the language of money

Financial literacy isn't taught in most schools. We're changing that for families across Leeds.

Why wait until they're adults?

Most young people leave school without understanding credit, budgets, or investments. The consequences show up years later—debt, poor decisions, missed opportunities.

We teach practical financial skills that stick. Not theory. Real-world knowledge they'll use throughout their lives.

The problem with financial education today

Traditional schooling covers algebra and Shakespeare, but rarely touches on managing money. By the time most people learn about compound interest or credit scores, they've already made costly mistakes.

We've worked with over 400 families in Leeds. The pattern is always the same: parents wish they'd learned earlier. Children are eager to understand, but nobody's teaching them.

Educational materials

How we teach differently

Age-appropriate content

We adjust complexity based on developmental stage. Eight-year-olds learn through games. Sixteen-year-olds tackle real investment scenarios.

Practical exercises

No dry textbooks. Students create budgets, compare products, calculate savings goals. They learn by doing.

Family involvement

Parents receive guidance on reinforcing concepts at home. Financial education works best as a family practice.

"My daughter was spending her birthday money within days. After three sessions, she started asking about saving for bigger goals. The change was remarkable."

— Sarah T., parent from Headingley

"I wish I'd had this when I was young. My son now understands percentages better through calculating discounts than he ever did in maths class."

— Michael R., parent from Roundhay

What parents notice

The results show up in everyday moments. Children start comparing prices without prompting. Teenagers ask thoughtful questions about family finances. They develop patience around purchases.
